REPORT: 2ND ANNIVERSARY AT TURNSTYLES

CFCSG celebrated its 2nd Anniversary on May 2, 2009. It represents yet another milestone for CFCSG in its short but eventful history. Turnstyles played host to more than 60 members from the club as they gathered to commemorate this special occasion. CFCSG started out with one goal in mind, which is to provide a venue for various Chelsea FC fans to gather and show their support. A strong core of founding members has enabled CFCSG to grow into one of the major supporters’ clubs in Singapore.

The party on May 2, 2009 kicked off at 8pm, with members streaming into Turnstyles for registration and door gifts. The party began to heat up quickly with excitement and anticipation from the members present. By 8.30 pm, members from all over the island began to pack the venue and the party was ready to begin with a bang. Allan Chan, President of CFCSG, got the ball rolling by declaring the official start of the party followed by a short speech. To show the club’s appreciation to Allan for his dedication in serving the club, a bouquet of flowers was presented to him by Cheryl, to the rousing cheers of fellow members.

Next up, two senior members of the club, Luke and Henry, gave a short welcome speech to all members present with their hilarious banter. With the atmosphere at an electrifying level, Luke and Melvin, who were the co-hosts for the day, got a quiz going. The quiz consisted of two rounds of ten questions, first round was on our beloved Chelsea FC and second round was questions on the English Premier League. After an intense hour of brain storming, the winning group finally emerged by a narrow margin of two points.

The winning team won themselves some official Chelsea merchandise and a bucket of beer and the first runner-up won a bucket of beer. After all the fun and excitement of the quiz, the members were able to enjoy a sumptuous spread of buffet dinner provided by the club. It was heartwarming to witness every member, regardless of age and race, enjoy their food and mingling with each other like one big family.

As the party unfolded according to plan, the match between Chelsea and Fulham soon got underway. As the live match was shown on the screens, cries of “Come on, Chelsea!!”, “Carefree” and some other chants were heard throughout the match. During halftime, an auction was held to raise funds for the club. Luke did an excellent job to liven up the auction with his witty comments and ideas, bringing much needed funds to the club. After the auction, the match continued with all members showing their tremendous support at every opportunity.

As the match was coming to a close, David and Daniel led a rendition of “One man went to mow” to give the match a rousing finale. And finally, a lucky draw was held with many attractive Chelsea merchandise as prizes.

Many members were able to win a prize, which was the highlight of the event for most members. After the lucky draw, the party drew to a close as every member started streaming out of Turnstyles with a wide smile on their face.

Last but not least, the club would like to thank everybody involved in organizing such a wonderful event and those who graced the event with their attendance.
